In BJJ, You’ll Use Skill and Technique to Succeed Against Larger, Stronger Opponents
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a grappling/wrestling martial art, designed for self-defense, sport, and sports competition. Commonly known as BJJ and as “Attack the Back”, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training focuses on grappling and ground fighting.
The basic principle of BJJ is that, during ground fighting, a smaller, weaker person can use specific leverage techniques to successfully defend themselves against a larger, stronger, heavier opponent. This makes BJJ an excellent self-defense art for smaller people and women.
The size advantage of a larger, heavier opponent is diminished or lost once the fight is on the ground. BJJ is one of the world’s most effective martial arts because in real-life, most fights end up on the ground. Using proper Brazilian Jiu Jitsu techniques, a fighter can gain the advantage over an opponent who has greater raw, physical strength. Most submissions do one of two things: apply locking pressure to a joint or cut off the blood supply to a part of the body (usually the brain).
Jiu Jitsu was founded in Japan as a combat art and self-defense system for a smaller person using leverage against a larger attacker. An offshoot of Jiu Jitsu evolved in Brazil and became known as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Sparring and live drilling are key components of our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes. Like other martial arts, BJJ is excellent for building strong character and improving your physical fitness.
Who: teens through adults of any ability, from “ground zero” through expert black belt. Our curriculum is designed for those of any ability and experience; you will train with individuals who have like-minded goals in a “we’re family” environment, encouraging each other to progress in fitness and ability.

Class Schedule: Mondays and Thursdays 8:30 pm – 10:00 pm
Fees: fees are paid monthly, no contracts. Per student fee varies depending on how many family members are taking classes and how many weekly classes the student enrolls in. Contact us for details.
